We’re hiring a Staff Environmental Scientist – Stormwater Inspector to join our growing team. In this role, you'll be on the front lines of environmental protection, performing critical inspections and ensuring compliance with the Construction General Permit (CGP) across a variety of project sites. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact while working independently in the field and supporting a collaborative, mission-driven team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Site Inspections
  • Conduct routine (weekly, pre-storm, during-storm, and post-storm) inspections per CGP requirements
  • Evaluate stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) for proper installation and effectiveness
  • Identify pollutant sources and assess risks to stormwater discharges
  • Document field observations using notes, checklists, and photos
Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and corrective action logs
  • Maintain accurate records of rainfall, inspections, BMP activities, and maintenance
SWPPP Implementation
  • Support the Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) in executing the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
  • Monitor site compliance with SWPPP and recommend updates as needed
BMP Oversight
  • Verify BMP installation aligns with SWPPP and manufacturer specifications
  • Oversee BMP maintenance, replacement, or upgrades
  • Monitor proper storage/handling of construction materials and chemicals
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure stormwater discharges meet CGP requirements
  • Support permit-required training, inspection, sampling, and reporting
  • Assist with documentation during regulatory inspections
Rain Event Tracking & Sampling
  • Track forecasts and document rain predictions to trigger inspections/sampling
  • Conduct visual observations and collect samples during qualifying precipitation events (QPEs)
  • Coordinate lab analysis and review results for compliance
Communication & Coordination
  • Collaborate with contractors, superintendents, and project managers on stormwater issues
  • Clearly communicate deficiencies or compliance concerns
  • Deliver stormwater-related training and toolbox talks as needed
Additional Notes
  • This is a field-based position requiring travel to job sites across California
  • Must be able to work independently after training, with support from the project team
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Training and travel expenses are company-paid

Essential and Desired Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant experience required
  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • QSP and/or QSD certification desired or ability to obtain
  • Experience with general and/or linear construction projects strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic reporting tools and stormwater inspection apps a plus
  • Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
